‘Folkestone Art Trust’ is the official custodian of the ‘Metropole Art Collection‘ – an important regional collection of contemporary art, founded by the millionaire Gerald Glover, and subsequently built up by the Metropole Arts Trust from the 1960s, under the initial guidance of Professor John Eveleigh & the patronage of Lord Kenneth Clark; with Henry Moore & John Piper heading a list of patrons.
That founding Collection is at the core of what we do. We’re part of a group of organisations in Folkestone and beyond, working to harness the creative energy in the area, building on its visual arts heritage to support the economic regeneration of this coastline.
On this site you’ll find more information about our work, the Collection and the shows organised.
